Legend
Ingredient review and safety:
As there was no clinical study evidence to review, we looked at the ingredient list to give us more information on what this facial oil can do. Neutrogena bases its claims on time-related statements, such as “fast”, “one week” or “overnight”. To confirm they are indeed supported by science, we would have to have clinical or user study testing evidence. The same goes for “clinically proven to..”. Based on the ingredient list in this product, we could award limited points to the claim “Diminishes the look of dark age spots”, due to its retinoid content. This Facial Oil has a relatively small number of ingredients.
Isohexadecane, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, PPG-15 Stearyl Ether, Triethyl Citrate, Polysorbate 20, Retinal, Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, Bisabolol, BHT.
Allergen free?
Preservative free?
EU restricted ingredient free?
The ingredients listed do not contain any preservatives, known fragrance allergens, or any other ingredients restricted for cosmetic use. However, this product has one ingredient listed as “Fragrance”. Currently, “Fragrance” can contain any combination of hundreds of chemicals. A lot of these components will not have been tested for toxicity. We asked Neutrogena if the “Fragrance” contains any of the known fragrance allergens, or ingredients that are on the restricted list in the EU. Neutrogena declined to comment. Although we have scored this product as free of potential fragrance allergens or other EU restricted ingredients, caution is needed as these ingredients may be undeclared under the “Fragrance” ingredient. Ultimately, it would be helpful to see how the product was tolerated in the clinical study.
Conclusions

Pros
- Ingredients suggest that it might diminish the look of dark age spots.
- No listed preservatives, fragrance allergens, or other restricted ingredients.
Cons
- Neutrogena’s team is unwilling to share any evidence of clinical studies that would be able to support any beneficial claims they make about this product.
- We were not able to confirm whether the “Fragrance” ingredient contains potential allergens or ingredients which can be irritating to some individuals.
